Dr. Carlene Pilar-Arceo
PDA, General Education Center (GEC) Diliman
Dr. Carlene Pilar-Arceo is currently a PDA of the General Education Center (GEC). She is currently a Professor at the Institute of Mathematics, UP Diliman College of Science, where she also obtained her doctorate in Applied Mathematics (Operations Research and master degree in Mathematics. Her research interests are in the field of mathematics education and mathematical modelling.
Dr. Pilar-Arceo has constantly received awards even during her early years in teaching. She was recognized as the Outstanding Junior Faculty (as an Instructor) and the Outstanding Faculty (as an Assistant Professor) during the UP Diliman Gawad Chancellor awarding ceremonies in 1993 and 2004, respectively. She was also a recipient of numerous faculty grant from both inside and outside the country. Moreover, she is the co-chair of the International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education in Developing Countries since 2015. She is also a resource person for the Department of Education – NCR and Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Mass Training of Teacher. In 2013-2016, Dr. Pilar-Arceo was also a Critic-Evaluator for the Teaching Effectiveness Course.
The GEC Diliman is a new administrative unit of the OVCAA with the mission of helping to unify the implementation of UP Diliman’s GE Program, coordinating access to and utilization of GE resources, and supporting GE-related research and development (OVCAA-BMP-16-187, 30 June 2016). Along with her GEC team, Dr. Pilar-Arceo aims that with the cooperation of different colleges and academic units, will create convergence in developing and reviewing of concepts and all resources pertaining to GE courses.
Aside from being the GEC PDA, she also serves as a member to the Board of Directors of UP Diliman Mathematics Foundation. In 2007-2011, Dr. Pilar-Arceo was appointed as the Assistant Secretary of the University and of the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines System.
