We live in a world where data privacy is paramount and data breaches can have severe consequences. Keeping up with the latest data protection regulations may seem challenging, but still crucial. Hence, organizations must invest in anti-piracy applications and in training their staff on data privacy practices and compliance.

In line with this agendum on data privacy, the UP Diliman – OVCAA Data Privacy Committee organized the “Privacy Orientation Webinar 2024” which was successfully held last November 14, 2024 via Zoom. The webinar was attended by the REPS and Administrative staff members from the OVCAA Central, OAT, OIL, NSTP, OFA, and ILCD offices.

Distinguished guest speakers from the UP Diliman Data Privacy Office, Atty. Regine Estillore-Gonda (Data Privacy Officer) and Michael Laxina (Data Privacy Auditor), shared comprehensive insights with regard to data protection regulations and compliances with the law particularly the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173).

The activity aims (1) to provide the participants with information in addressing emerging issues and concerns in safeguarding personal and sensitive information, and (2) to equip the participants with the skills required to understand and handle sensitive data responsibly and comply with global privacy regulations.

At the end of the webinar, a critical hands-on simulation activity was also conducted. These activities were carefully designed to enhance participants’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills, enabling them to address data privacy challenges effectively and uphold institutional standards.

The UP Diliman – OVCAA Data Privacy Committee remains committed to the highest standards of digital safety education, preparing its staff to navigate the challenges of the technological age while upholding ethical and legal data handling practices.
